Halloween Cake Recipes

Some ideas for some bizarre and some cute halloween cakes such as Orange-Ooze Cupcakes, Halloween Spider Cake, Flower Pot Dirt Cakes, Black Cat Cupcakes, and more.

 

Halloween Cakes

 

Orange-Ooze Cupcakes

Filling:

  • 8 oz Cream cheese; softened
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/3 c Sugar
  • Yellow and red food coloring
  • 6 oz Chocolate chips

Cupcakes:

  • 3 c Flour
  • 2 c Sugar
  • 1/2 c Cocoa
  • 2 ts Baking soda
  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 2 c Water
  • 1/2 c Plus 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tb Cider vinegar
  • 2 ts Vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line cupcake baking pans with paper cupcake liners.

In small mixing bowl, use electric mixer to combine cream cheese, egg and sugar. Blend in 2 drops yellow food coloring and 1 drop red food coloring, adding more coloring if necessary to reach desired shade. Use mixing spoon to stir in chocolate chips; set filling aside.

In large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt; set aside.

In second small mixing bowl, combine water, vegetable oil, vinegar and vanilla. Add contents of small mixing bowl to large mixing bowl and stir with mixing spoon to combine.

Using mixing spoon or soup spoon, fill cupcake liners half full with cupcake batter, then place 1 teaspoon filling at center of each. As cupcake bakes, the batter will rise to surround the filling.

Wearing oven mitts, place cupcake pans in oven; bake approximately 25 minutes or until cupcakes test done.

When done, wear oven mitts to remove pan from oven and turn off oven.

If desired, frost with orange icing--or just let the orange filling ooze out as a surprise.

Black Cat Cupcakes

  • 1 1/4 c Reduced Fat Oreo. cookiecrumbs
  • 18 1/4 oz reduced fat chocolate cake mix
  • 24 pcs Halloween Oreo. cookies
  • 16 oz reduced fat milk chocolate frosting
  • Black string licorice
  • Jelly beans
  • Semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350.

Prepare 24-2 1/2" muffin cups with cooking spray and flour; set aside.

Prepare cake mix according to package directions; stir in cookie crumbs. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from pans; cool on wire rack. Make cat faces on each of the remaining cookies: using some frosting, attach 4-1 1/2" licorice strings for whiskers, 2 jelly bean halves for eyes and 2 chocolate chips for ears.Let set at least 30 minutes. Frost cupcakes with remaining frosting.

Stand cat faces on edge on each cupcake. Place 3" piece licorice string on back half of each cupcake for tail.

Flower Pot Dirt Cakes

  • 1 Box chocolate cake mix or brownie mix
  • 1 3" flower pot
  • 1 Silk flower with leaves
  • 1/4 c Prepared whipped topping or
  • -non-diary whipped topping
  • 1/4 c Vanilla pudding
  • 6 Chocolate cream-filled cookies
  • 3 Gummy worms

Bake cake or brownie mix in a rectangular pan according to package directions.

When cool, cut into bite-sized cubes. (you will have extra cake. freeze it for later pots or just eat it)

In a large bowl, mix the whipped cream with the pudding.

Place cookies in a plastic bag and crumble.

Layer the ingredients in the flower pot in this order: 1 or 2 cake cubes; 1 or 2 tablespoons of pudding/whipped cream mixture; a sprinkling of crunched up cookies.

Repeat layers.

On top of second layer of cookies, place silk flower in flower pot and arrange gummy worms around.

Jack-o-Lantern Frosting

  • 1 Egg white
  • 3/4 c Sugar
  • 1/4 ts Cream of tartar
  • 1/4 c Orange juice
  • 1/2 ts Vanilla
  • Your favorite Frosting
  • Yellow and red food coloring

Place all ingredients except food coloring, into top of double boiler. Beat over simmering water with electric mixer 5-7 minutes or until mixture stands in peaks.

Tint frosting orange by using several drops of yellow and red food coloring.

Halloween Pumpkin-Shaped Cake

  • 2 pk Cake mix, prepared
  • 2 cn White frosting
  • Food coloring
  • 1 Hostess Ho-Ho (or similar cake-roll type cake)

Prepare two cakes in bundt pans, cool completely.

Color most of the frosting a deep orange, reserving about 1/2 c , which should be colored black (you can also use dark chocolate fudge frosting).

Place one bundt cake upside down (rounded side on the bottom) on cake plate; frost top only. Place second bundt cake flat-side down on top of first cake.

Frost entire cake with orange frosting, making up and down motions with spatula to simulate pumpkin. Insert Ho-Ho in the middle of the top of the bundt cake to make the stem.

Use black frosting to make eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Black rope licorice may also be used.

Halloween Spider Cake

  • 1 pk White cake mix 18 1/4 oz
  • 1 sm Green gelatin

Black Frosting:

  • Blue food coloring
  • Chocolate frosting

Decorations:

  • 4 Black licorice
  • 2 Big green gum balls
  • 6 Little gum balls

Prepare cake and gelatin according to package directions, except use 9" round cake pans for the cake..

Cut a smaller circle out of one cake and using it as the head. Fill the hole left over with gelatin. Place the other layer on top and trim to shape.

To prepare Black Frosting:
In a mixing bowl, add blue food coloring to chocolate frosting until black in color.

Frost cake with the black frosting. Then, use the black licorice as legs and gum balls as eyes.

When cake is cut, it spurts green goop.

Root Beer Float Cake

  • 1 pk Betty Crocker Super Moist white cake mix
  • 1 1/4 c Root beer
  • 1/4 c Vegetable oil
  • 2 Eggs

Root Beer Cream:

  • 1/2 pk (2.8 Oz.size) whipped topping mix (1 envelope)
  • 1/2 c Chilled root beer

Heat oven to 350øF. Generously grease and flour rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.

Beat cake mix (dry), root beer, oil and eggs in large bowl on low speed 30 seconds. Beat on high speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.

Pour into pan. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; cool. Serve with Root Beer Cream.

Sprinkle with crushed root beer-flavored hard candies if desired.

Root Beer Cream:
Beat topping mix (dry) and root beer in medium bowl on high speed about 4 minutes or until thickened.

Yield: 16 servings.
