Christmas Tree Popcorn Garland

Make a garland by stringing popcorn. Thread a needle and then thread the popcorn (you might want to wear a thimble on your finger when you push the needle through the popcorn. Use as much popcorn as necessary to propery adorn your tree.

Thanks to Jani in Denver for this quick tip: If you push the needle through the hull, the popcorn will stay together and not break off so quickly! Try adding cranberries to the "rope" for color.

Santa Hat

Take a sheet of heavy red construction paper and cut out a large triangle. Measure the size by fitting around the child's head; cut down size if necessary. Glue cotton balls along the bottom to form the brim. Staple together to make the hat fit the child's head. Glue a cotton ball to the top of the hat.

Christmas Trees

Cut out Christmas tree shapes from heavy green construction paper.

Using different colored fingerpaints, have the kids dip their fingers in the paints and make the different colored ornaments. Use silver or gold glitter to make the garlands.

Snow Cones

Collect some freshly fallen snow (make sure it's pure white and not yellow  : )

Place the snow into a bowl and top with a a few teaspoonfuls of frozen fruit juice concentrate

Personalized Christmas Placemats

Cut out the pictures from used christmas cards and glue them onto red or green heavy construction paper.

Using crayons or felt markers write the person's name on the top of the construction paper and draw on pictures of christmas trees, snowmen, reindeer, christmas stars, etc.

Cover the placemats with clear contact paper.

Scented Cinnamon Ornaments (non-edible)

      4 oz Cinnamon
      1 tb Cloves
      1 tb Nutmeg
    3/4 c  Applesauce
      2 tb White glue
           Ribbon

In medium bowl, combine cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Add applesauce and glue; stir to combine. Work mixture with hands 2 to 3 minutes or until dough is smooth and ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Divide into 4 portions.

On floured surface, roll each portion to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut dough with floured cookie cutters of different shapes (stars, christmas trees, snowman, etc.).

Using a toothpick, make a small hole in the top of the ornament. Place cutouts on wire racks and allow to dry at room temperature for several days or dry them in a dehydrator.

Thread ribbon through hole in ornament.

DO NOT EAT.

Makes about 32 (2 inch) ornaments.

Cut out the picture from old Christmas Cards, punch a hole in them for string and hang them on your Christmas tree.

Christmas Popcorn Ring

   8       qt           Popped popcorn
   6       c            Miniature marshmallows
   2       c            Small spiced gumdrops*
   2       c            Whole pecans
   2       c            Butter or Margarine
   2 2/3   c            Sugar
   1       c            Light corn syrup
   1       t            Vanilla

*Red and green.
Put popped popcorn, marshmallows, gumdrops, and pecans in a large bowl.

Melt butter, add sugar and corn syrup; bring to a boil, stirring and simmering 3 minutes, add vanilla, pour over popcorn. Mix well, let stand 2 minutes to cool.

Press into buttered ring-mold. Unmold onto wax paper.

Decorate with cut gumdrops.

Christmas Tree

Take a pointed ice cream cone. Frost it using green frosting. Decorate your Christmas Tree with small candies (red-hots, cut-up pieces of red licorice, colored smarties, etc.)

Bagel Wreaths

Add green food coloring to cream cheese.

Cut the bagel in half and frost it totally using the green cream cheese.

Decorate with small pieces of assorted dried fruit.

Marshmallow Popcorn Christmas Tree

    12  c   Popped popcorn
  1/2  c    Margarine or butter
   3  c  Mini marshmallows
  1/2  pk  Lime flavored jello
     Green food color
     Candy pieces to decorate tree

Spread popcorn evenly in jelly-roll pan or on waxed paper-lined counter.

In medium saucepan, combine margarine and marshmallows; cook over medium heat until melted. Add jello; continue to cook until jello is dissolved. Add food color and mix well.

Pour evenly over popcorn; stir quickly to coat.

With dampened hands, shape popcorn into cone shape. Decorate tree with candy pieces.

Homemade Christmas Card

Take a large piece of heavy construction paper and fold it in half so it resembles a card.

Cut out photographs of yourself and the person you're making the card for and glue the pictures on the construction paper. Add a cute poem or funny saying to the inside of the card. Decorate the card with glitter or ribbons.
